A bit about Pilates

Joseph Pilates didn’t break up his work into “levels.” He ran his studio in a time (1st half of the 20th century) when fitness instruction differed greatly from today’s accepted norms. There was no such thing as “group classes” or differing styles of Pilates… It wasn’t even called “Pilates” then, as that would have been a bit vain. Joe called it “Contrology.” Of course, this also means that no one was “certified” to teach Pilates or contrology, as there were no programs or schools.

But things are different now. Studios vary in their approach to the work, movement philosophies, and teaching styles. Especially when working in a group Pilates setting, it is essential to maintain consistent metods–this ensures safety, sets clear expectations, keeps the class moving at the appropriate pace, and helps clients continually advance their Pilates skills and confidence.

Our instructors do not all come from the same training program. We feature instructors from a diverse array of Pilates backgrounds and training programs. We value this diversity; it enriches our methods and broadens our perspectives.

Although we may teach different variations of exercises, all our instructors are committed to safety, quality, and education. We focus on the Pilates principles of breath, whole-body movement, working from a strong center, precision, and control.

Our Take on Reformer

The Pilates Reformer with Tower

With our small and highly personalized classes, our instructors offer modifications throughout the class, allowing you to either advance or dial back an exercise to accommodate your needs. When you are ready to progress, pull your instructor aside and let them know. Your instructors will review your progress and work with you to determine whether advancing to the next level is right for you. Once you have achieved a higher level, you may register for any class at that level or below without additional permission.

Pilates Reformer Class Types

All our studios use the best reformers available: Balanced Body® reformers with Allegro towers. We also leverage Balanced Body® accessories, including the tower, split pedal chair, box, and more, to supplement your workout, as well as premium props from Bala®. The reformers are made in the USA.

Beginner / Beginner for All

These aren’t like any beginner classes you’ve ever tried. Many of our members from other studios were not instructed on good form, the foundation for a safe and impactful workout.

Many of the franchise Pilates studios use levels for marketing purposes and gamification. Our levels all offer a rigorous workout. The difference between our beginner and advanced classes lies in the complexity of the skill (can you perform straps, springs, and box placement all from a verbal cue, versus seeing someone else demonstrate the skill?) And pace. Our beginner classes proceed at a slower pace to allow for questions, form correction, and assistance.

These classes are for real, baby. Even if you’ve been doing Pilates for years, you haven’t experienced a class like this. Beginner classes offer an intense Pilates workout focused on mastering the core principles of this fitness modality. Time and attention are placed on form and learning how to use the reformer, tower, and accessories. Those new to reformer will find this class informative and helpful in understanding if Pilates is right for them. Seasoned Pilates members will find this class a great refresher on form and function—two essential elements that ensure your workouts are both impactful and safe.

This class is also ideal for expecting mamas and those managing chronic illnesses, as it offers more time to transition between skills. We will focus on learning fundamental Pilates techniques to align and strengthen the whole body. Members must take 20 Beginner classes before moving to Intermediate classes. This class is open to all levels.

Tower / Tower All Levels

This class is for anyone interested in exploring the foundations of Pilates using the Tower. It focuses on improving strength, flexibility, and postural awareness using the Tower—an apparatus attached to the Reformer with springs for resistance and a mat to enhance stability. This class is open to all levels.

Intermediate

This class is ideal for our intermediate Pilates enthusiasts seeking to enhance their strength and balance through engaging transitions and props. Any combination of the reformer, mat, chair, or tower apparatus can be used. This class is open to those who have completed at least 20 Beginner classes. To take the intermediate level, you should be able to position the box, manipulate the straps, set your own springs and footbar, and complete a skill with only a verbal cue.

Intermediate Tower

An intermediate Tower class that combines classical Pilates mat work with the heavy spring resistance of the wall unit (the arm springs, leg springs, rollback bar, and push-through bar). Some classes may include small props, like the Magic Circle or Pilates Ball. This class is open to those who have completed at least 20 Beginner and/or Beginner Tower classes.

Intermediate/Advanced*

***Studio Pre-Approval Required to Participate*** This class features intermediate and advanced-level exercise progressions on the tower, reformer, and chair. Class speed may vary from moderate to fast at the instructor’s discretion. This is a class level for members with experience using the Allegro II Reformers, but who still need occasional help with queuing and form. Not for those with acute injuries or chronic medical conditions.

Advanced*

***Studio Pre-Approval Required to Participate*** This class features intermediate and advanced-level exercise progressions on the tower, reformer, and chair. Participating in advanced-level classes requires instructor approval to ensure your safety and enjoyment. Class speed may vary from moderate to fast at the instructor’s discretion.

Deep Release (All Levels)

In this class, we focus on creating movement through myofascial release. We’ll use props such as massage balls, foam rollers, and blocks. By working through the entire body, head to toe, we release commonly restricted areas, such as the neck and shoulders, lower back, glutes, and hip flexors. This class perfectly complements your Pilates classes because it works deeply within the fascia (the complex connective tissue that runs throughout the body). If you need a massage, this is the class for you!

Stretch & Release (Chill All Levels)

This class will focus on static stretches, incorporating Pilates movements to enhance flexibility and improve overall mobility. You will enable a greater range of motion by combining static and dynamic stretches to lengthen and strengthen the muscle fibers. The focus for each class will be determined by what the class members feel on that day, and yes, feet in straps will be on the agenda.

Athletic Burn (Cardio All Levels)

Get ready for a contemporary-style Pilates workout with a twist. In this class, you’ll get your heart rate up and feel that sweet, sweet BURN baby! You’ll find muscles you never knew existed in each class and push yourself to the max.

Cardio Flow (Cardio Intermediate)

This class blends the best of cardio and strength training. It combines reformer and jump board movements and may feature the chair depending on client attendance. Your heart rate will be elevated compared to our traditional Pilates class, resulting in a more significant cardio impact. Instructors will guide the class and offer spring choices and modifications so that each member can enjoy the class to its maximum effect.

Jumpboard Flow (Cardio Intermediate)

Get your heart pumping with this fun, intermediate-level class combining jumping intervals with classical Pilates. Strengthen your heart and muscles with this invigorating blend of low-impact cardio and core training. This class is open to those completing at least 20 Beginner and/or Tower (All Levels) classes.

Roll & Restore (Chill All Levels)

In this class, we focus on creating movement through myofascial release. We’ll use props such as massage balls, foam rollers, and blocks. By working through the entire body, head to toe, we release commonly restricted areas, such as the neck and shoulders, lower back, glutes, and hip flexors. This class perfectly complements your Pilates classes because it works deeply within the fascia (the complex connective tissue that runs throughout the body). If you need a massage, this is the class for you!

Workshop / Exercise Intensive

Our workshop/exercise-intensive class is designed to provide members with a one-on-one experience where they can break down, further develop, and explore a select number of exercises. These exercises will change weekly, allowing you to develop your Pilates practice further and gain a deeper understanding of the equipment.

IMPORTANT

It is required that members complete a minimum of 40 intermediate Pilates classes and receive instructor clearance before enrolling in an advanced-level Pilates class. Members participating in advanced-level classes should be aware of their limitations and any potential injuries so that they can modify exercises as needed, with minimal assistance from the instructor. Our instructors will be happy to meet with you before you take an advanced class, so you know how to modify exercises to accommodate your needs. All members taking advanced-level classes must complete an additional questionnaire and waiver (we promise it is not too cumbersome!)
