Frequently Asked Questions
There is no formal experience required to participate in our Pilates instructor training program in Tampa.
Group fitness teaching experience is preferred but not required.
We recommend taking a combination of at least 20 reformer and mat Pilates classes before beginning your training. This can be completed at one of our studios or another reformer Pilates studio.
The curriculum is guided by movement science and rooted in the Pilates methodology. The same principles and movement skills are applied to both Mat and Reformer, providing a robust foundation of teaching skills that can be applied to one body or many.
No. At the completion of your test out, you will be a certified group Pilates Instructor. You will be welcome to audition for employment at the Pilates Krewe. However, participation in this program does not guarantee employment with The Pilates Krewe or any other employer.
Yes. This training is specially designed to be done as a whole. The value you are getting for the price is still a significant savings compared to taking all of the modules individually, and it never hurts to learn from a new voice and retake a module you have previously completed.
This is a Group Reformer and Mat Training certification powered by the US-based Pilates Education Institute (PEI), an internationally recognized educational organization approved by The Pilates Method Alliance. Your certificate(s) will carry the seal of PEI as well as the logo of Soteria Pilates, our educational partner. Of course, it is up to each studio/facility to determine which certifications they accept, and we encourage you to contact the studios directly if you have a specific studio in mind before beginning this program.
Reformer Pilates instructors should have mat Pilates training as part of their credentials before teaching at a group fitness studio, which is why it is part of our program. Mat provides you with the fundamentals of Pilates methods for supporting your clients and their fitness goals by offering them a foundation for a fun, safe, and impactful workout. However, Mat Pilates can be taught without having Reformer Pilates certification. Therefore, we offer this track independently. This training specializes in teaching Pilates to a group. Becoming a certified group instructor prepares you to teach a group of people all the fundamental Pilates movements.
Track 1 is our most popular program and includes the Mat Track and Reformer training, totaling 350 hours, and is ideal for instructors who want to start with a strong foundation in Pilates and then build upon their knowledge gradually.
Track 2 includes everything in the Mat Track and Track 1, plus Pilates equipment and accessories, including the Cadillac Reformer, tower, push-thru Bar, springboard, ladder barrel, spine corrector, and Pilates chair. It totals 500 hours and is best for those pursuing advanced instruction, such as an educator or rehabilitation specialist. Both tracks qualify you for the NCPT exam.
The cost of a Pilates Instructor Certification program in Tampa varies. It depends on the quality and reputation of the studio, the instructors running the program, and the completed modules. For example, a mat Pilates certificate can be completed relatively quickly, requiring fewer in-person classroom hours. A good mat Pilates program, taught by a master trainer in person, should cost between $2,000 and $3,000. If you find a program that is less than this, it probably lacks many features.
Obtaining your Reformer Pilates Certification requires completing several modules, such as Reformer 1 and Reformer 2, and possibly additional modules covering various Pilates apparatus, such as the Tower, Chair, and accessories. The price depends on the number of modules taken and the studio’s instruction quality. Programs typically start at $5,000 and increase from there (again, based upon the number of modules).
The Pilates Krewe offers a nationally and internationally-accredited Pilates Instructor Certification program that can be completed in modules over time. The program includes in-person studio-based training for real-world experience guided by a master Pilates instructor, experienced studio owners, and senior instructors. It also includes mentorship, 1-on-1 guidance, online learning and support, classroom observation, and co-teaching. Only legitimate programs will check all these boxes – and very few will do so.
- Start by finding a nationally or internationally accredited program. For example, find a program that uses widely accepted curriculum and training techniques, like the education provided in PEI – the Pilates Education Institute, accredited by the PMA – the Pilates Method Alliance. Only reputable studios will offer accredited training, so make sure the studio you will train at has an excellent reputation. You can learn about the studio by reading the studio’s website. Can you see who owns the studio? Do the owners work at the studio, or are they corporate people who work in an office? What is the history and genesis of the studio? Did a franchisee create it to make money, or did the owner/founder start the studio out of a specific need?
- Read online reviews about the studio to understand how it treats its clients and students.
- Ask for references from current and former students.
- Speak with the program director and ask questions about the training program, such as how you are supported after completing the modules.
No legitimate instructor training program can be completed entirely online. While there are modules you will complete that are online, you must have hands-on classroom training to learn how to work with Pilates equipment, such as the reformer, tower, chair, and accessories. You must learn to provide corrective guidance to help clients master form – the foundation for a safe and effective workout. You must learn how to interact, guide, and support clients. These skills require classroom-based training. Be wary of online-only training – it will not benefit you in the long run.
Most studios do not have the qualifications to help you become a Pilates instructor in Tampa. Their trainers are average, lack advanced certifications, and do not follow a national or international accrediting body’s standards. But because there are no regulations governing who can run a teacher training program, many studios offer this because they want your money. They don’t provide you mentorship, they don’t provide you 1-on-1 guidance, and they don’t offer you a framework for teaching group classes. They don’t support you after completing your training by allowing you to observe classes and co-teach. Instead, they charge a price that looks really good because it’s cheap. But, as the saying goes, “you get what you pay for.” Purchase a cheap training program, and you’ll get poor results and be ill-equipped to find success as an instructor. Moreover, you might have difficulty getting hired by a reputable studio. The Pilates Krewe Teacher Training program is priced competitively, even below some of the inferior training programs in Tampa.
Our Pilates Instructor Certification program is led by a master educator who has been training Pilates instructors for over a decade. Support staff includes instructors with years of training experience. This is significantly different from most Tampa instructor training programs offered at other studios. Those programs typically lack accreditation and are often run by junior instructors with limited experience leading teacher trainer programs. Some have no experience at all.
Our program is rooted in classical and contemporary Pilates principles, focused on biomechanics, spinal health, breathwork, and rehabilitation. Depending on your track, our training can take up to nine months and prepares you for a serious, sustainable career—not just boutique fitness trends.
Yes! We offer mat Pilates instructor training as a standalone track.
Yes! Our 100-hour mat certification is nationally recognized. Upon graduation, you’ll be able to teach private sessions or small group mat classes in studios, virtually, or independently.
