We offer a real first class so you can experience an actual reformer Pilates workout with a certified instructor. It’s not a demo or sales pitch like at other studios. It is only $18.54. If you start a membership the same day as your first class, we’ll apply that amount toward initiation to the studio, so the class becomes “free” at that point.
We are membership-only. We have found that this is the best option for an optimal member experience. Here’s why. With small packages and drop-ins, classes are often filled with random people the instructors don’t know. They might have undisclosed injuries or be highly skilled – we just don’t know… and that disrupts the flow of the class as the instructor has to pause and adjust. So classes are less consistent and don’t run smoothly. This is one of the most common complaints from members at other Pilates studios. Those studios use 3rd party apps to sell open seats in each class to the general public. You’ll never know who’s in your class and what skill level or support they need. That’s a massive distraction for members and significantly diminishes their experience.
We are membership-only. Take as many classes as you’d like, up to the limit of 16 per billing cycle. 90% of our members take less than 16, with most taking between 7 and 12 per cycle. So, we’ve priced our membership at what other studios typically charge for eight classes, but we give you tremendous additional value like including our premium equipment: towers/chairs/boxes/jumpboards, highly qualified/trained instructors, and premium support 365 days a year from the owners, not a front desk or corporate office. All while eliminating drop-ins, which are disruptive to classes and make it challenging to book at the last minute.
At our South Tampa and Tampa Heights Pilates studios, classes are capped at nine. At our Westchase Pilates studio, classes are capped at 10 (same for yoga and mat Pilates). Because we don’t use seat filler apps, classes are usually not full.
At most studios, the owners use third-party apps to sell discounted spots in each class to the general public. This way, the classes are always full and the studios make more money. This means that booking classes at the last minute is very difficult for members. Most franchises aim to sell as many memberships as possible, thereby packing the studio. No one can get into any classes. Worse yet, if you buy one of their smaller packages, you get to book after the members who have larger packages (size matters!) At TPK, we don’t use 3rd party apps like that, and we don’t oversell memberships. You’ll be able to book 75% of our classes the day before or day of without a waitlist.
Classes range from 40 to 50 minutes in duration, depending on the studio and class type.
There is free parking at all three of our studios. We couldn’t imagine having you pay for a membership and then having to pay to park. No validations required. Just park.
Yes. There is a bike rack in the parking lot of South Tampa, an aluminum fence at Tampa Heights, and bike racks at Westchase Town Center.
We aren’t one of those gimmicky studios that always announce a special or “best deal of the year.” We’re the best value and offer the best experience in Tampa, with prices that remain consistent.
- This is another significant reason our studios have low attrition rates. Our owners, Dan and Sydney, work at the studios, teach classes, and run them. They support our members and are accessible at a moment’s notice. They are not corporate franchisees—they are hands-on. This is their primary focus. They also don’t own a smoothie shop or have a day job that distracts them from supporting members. Our family lives in Tampa, our children attend school here, and we shop, dine, and visit all the same places you do.
So, unless you’ve done reformer Pilates at a classical studio for several months, not a Lagree or cardio studio that uses devices similar to a reformer, it’s best to start with one of our beginner classes. It’s always better to start there and then get approval from one of our instructors to “level up.”
If you’ve been doing privates and your instructor is not comprehensively trained, you should probably also start at the beginner level.
If you know how to adjust your straps, carriage, footboard, springs, box, and cactus, then you are ready for the intermediate level.
For starters, Lagree notes right on their website that “Lagree is not Pilates. Period.” So what is it? The Lagree Method is “a high-intensity, low-impact exercise method” that incorporates “bodybuilding technique.” Lagree and Pilates are both low-impact, full-body workouts that emphasize core strength, but they differ in terms of intensity, equipment used, and focus. Lagree is a high-intensity workout that utilizes the Megaformer, a piece of equipment resembling a Pilates Reformer. However, it doesn’t have a tower and incorporate a trapeze, and doesn’t typically leverage a box or jumpboard. Megaformers also don’t typically incorporate other Pilates apparatus, such as the split pedal chair or barrel.
While high-intensity workouts can be an excellent form of fitness, they can also introduce additional risks for the client. Because at times you are performing more intense and often fast repetitions without breaks, you can risk repetitive stress injuries, sprains, strains, and tendonitis. Without breaks, you can overtrain, which can result in negative impacts on your immune system and overall health. If you are not being coached on proper form (which is often the case in large classes with more than 10 members), you can increase the risk of injury due to limited supervision. Larger group classes may also lack accommodations for members who might have injuries, be recovering from injuries, or have varying body types, creating an unmanageable challenge for a less-qualified instructor attempting to follow a rigid fitness program. These types of fitness classes tend to be “prescribed,” meaning they follow a preset script of exercises from which the instructor does not deviate.
Reformer Pilates, especially at The Pilates Krewe, is taught by certified Pilates professionals who typically have completed at least 500 hours of intensive training, encompassing proper form, injury accommodation and modification, anatomy, and more. At The Pilates Krewe, we also provide regular training sessions and continuing education for our staff at no additional charge, enabling them to develop specializations in accommodating various types of injuries, conditions, and body types, including abdominal strains, shoulder injuries, osteoporosis, prenatal considerations, postpartum recovery, and more.
Classical Pilates reformer will be a rigorous workout that can be adjusted mid-class to provide more or less resistance, depending on your physical strength. Instructors will help you perfect form, the foundation for a fun, safe, and impactful workout. Repetitions and transitions between skills are often more methodical and intentional than rapid.
Classical Pilates, utilizing the reformer and related accessories such as the tower, chair, barrel, and box, will focus on controlled movements to develop core strength, enhance flexibility, and improve body awareness.
Heck no! Heated fitness classes are not appropriate for a large portion of the general population. This includes those with cardiovascular illnesses, expecting moms, breastfeeding moms, those with heat intolerance, predisposition to dehydration, or dizziness, and certain chronic illnesses.
Additionally, many studios that offer heated classes often lack adequate ventilation and disinfection systems. After all, these studios moved into spaces vacated by other businesses and may not have properly retrofitted their HVAC systems. We all know what excessive moisture and humidity breed – dangerous molds and bacteria. Then, they pack members into poorly ventilated spaces. The risks to air quality are real.
At The Pilates Krewe, our yoga and mat Pilates classes are in well-ventilated areas, with air circulation and HEPA air filtration. The classes are also capped at 10 members.
Ladies should wear yoga-inspired attire… Your attire should be comfortable and performant, not restrictive and overly ornate. Leave the rhinestones for the coffee break. Long hair? Tie it off, rock a pony, or bun it so it doesn’t dangle down into the headrest area. Athletic hats are fine, and you’ll find our owner, Dan, rocking one in his classes.
Our guys should wear track pants or lined gym shorts to conceal your package. Some of the exercises involve lying on your back, which can expose your boys to the elements and provide a show. Our owner, Dan, prefers track pants, but lined shorts are okay too. We sell men’s grip socks in a variety of very boring colors, don’t worry. Wear comfortable, but not baggy tops… owner Dan’s go-to is an athletic-fitting t-shirt from a performance material.
Yes! You will need fitness-quality grip socks to participate in our reformer Pilates classes safely. We don’t recommend grip socks from trampoline/bounce houses or hospitals, as they are designed for single use and don’t offer the same type of performance. Would you wear soccer cleats to play tennis? No! So make sure you have the appropriate sock. We sell them at the studio, if needed. Be sure to add a credit card to your profile in our TPK App, as we don’t use a register or accept cash at the studios.
Hard no. Our water is filtered, chilled, and best of all, free. We don’t sell bottled water because of the potential harm caused by microplastics and the fact that these bottles are detrimental to the ecosystem. We also don’t need to sell you extra stuff. Our focus is fitness, not beverage sales. Additionally, many sports beverages are loaded with caffeine, sugar, and other additives that we believe are best left out of our bodies.
However, if you need a little pick-me-up, we offer free Nespresso coffees at all our studios. We also offer complimentary snacks, such as granola bars, in case your blood sugar levels are a little low. In the event of a blood sugar issue, we have a limited number of juice boxes available in each fridge for members in emergencies.
Our studios have private (lockable) changing areas and/or bathrooms stocked with an assortment of premium toiletries like Dove deodorant, mouthwash, and hair ties. However, we do not have the space for showers.
Bring a refillable water bottle – we have a bottle filler for filtered, chilled water at all our studios. That’s it! We offer fresh towels, complimentary snacks to help boost your energy if your blood sugar levels drop, and plenty of positive vibes. Leave your stress at home or in the car. Please leave your phone or switch it to silent mode when storing it in the cubbies (no phone use during class).
